Hello, my name is Talia Vinson, I am 18 years old and will be attending university in Pennsylvania, USA this fall. I will be majoring in Computer Science and World History as well as minoring in asian languages (specifically Korean and Japanese).
I decided to come to Acopia because I found that it fit well with my intended area of studies in University. I wanted to gain experience before I began my time in university so that I could build a foundation that would better support me in my major. I hope that my time in Acopia will help me learn more about Korea’s history, their role as a tech giant in the world, the relationship between South Korea and Japan, as well help me improve my Korean Language skills.
My Experience Interning at Acopia.
I have now been at Acopia for three months and I can gladly say that I have learned so much and I am lucky to have interned here. Before coming to Acopia I had little experience with social media marketing, video or photo editing, or with contacting potential partners. But being at Acopia allowed me to learn those skills in an environment that gave me the ability to be creative. Now when I go back home I will be able to mention these new skills on my resume and really stand apart from others.
I would also like to mention the wonderful staff and co-interns I was able to work with. I had little experience when I first came to Acopia as I had only just graduated High School and I was extremely worried that it would be difficult for me to get tasks completed. However the managers at Acopia were wonderful and patient. They helped me to understand my tasks and advised me in how to complete my work and did so in a way that also allowed me to learn on my own. The staff at Acopia are all incredibly kind and the interns are too. During my internship, I worked mostly with French and Japanese interns, which I really enjoyed because I got to learn more about those two cultures.
Some of my favorite memories from working at Acopia would have to been when I and one other intern trained with Acopia School Students for a performance. It was exciting to learn the choreography for Mamamoo’s “HIP” and PSY’s “Gentleman”. It really allowed me to explore a new genre of dance than I am not use to and I had so many laughs with them. The day we performed was a ton of fun and after we all went to get Bingsu together.
I also loved Acopia’s Korean class. Every week the interns would go to Acopia School and we would have korean class for 2 hours. I really loved this since I got to learn more of the Korean language as well as learn more about Korean culture. I plan on getting a minor in Korean language so these classes really helped me to keep up with my studies.
Acopia also has days where we go around to different parts of Korea and film videos for YouTube. This was a huge perk as it allowed me to see different parts of Seoul. We even went to see a master ceramics creator and I got to make a pasta bowl with him. So if you’re someone who likes to explore while working, I would definitely suggest interning here. Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus there were things that I wasn’t able to do while interning here but despite that Acopia did everything it could to make sure I got to enjoy my time here. The housing in Hongdae is really nice and it allowed for me to easily check out cute shops and cafes. I also had easy access to the subways which allowed me to explore Seoul without a lot of hassle.
Overall, if I had to chose to do it all again I definitely would! If you are someone who wants to gain new skills in marketing, wants to try working in a foreign country, but also is given time to explore the country, than you should really consider an internship here.
