Alien registration in Korea

If you have obtained a visa to study abroad and have entered Korea for 91 days or more, you must register as an alien.

By applying and registering, you will be issued an "Alien Registration Card", which is your official ID in Korea.

If you do not register as a foreigner within 90 days of entering Korea, you will be fined, so please apply as soon as you have all the necessary documents.

Acopia supports alien registration application, so we will inform you even after entering Korea.


Documents you need to submit to apply for

1) Passport (Please prepare the copy one also)

2) Application form for alien registration (You can find it at the immigration office but we can give you in advance if you want.)

3) Color photo (4.5cm×3.5cm / Background is white)

4) Handling fee 30,000KRW (Cash)

5) Documents to be submitted according to residence qualification

- For high school transfer ⇒ High school enrollment certificate

- For language school courses ⇒ Certificate of enrollment at university language school

6) Residence confirmation documents (prepared at Acopia)

Application place

The jurisdiction of the place of application for alien registration is divided according to the area of residence.

Most of Acopia's international students will stay at Acopia House or Kositel (for men) near Acopia School, so please apply at the "Southern Seoul Immigration Office".

To apply for alien registration, you need to make a reservation for visiting the Immigration Bureau in advance, but Acopia will take care of the reservation for you.

If you make a reservation, please be sure to leave with plenty of time on the day.


Seoul South Immigration Office

《Address》 745, Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul (서울 특별시 강서구 마곡 동745)

《Access》 5 minutes walk from Exit 1 of Magok Station (마곡 역) on Subway Line 5.

Access to the Immigration Office from the Magok station (Line No.5)

1) Take Exit 1 of Magok Station on Subway Line 5 and go straight on the road on your left.

2) Continue along the road.

3) After about 300m, you will see a white and orange building on your right. (This building is the office for foreigners entering and leaving the southern part of Seoul)

4)-1 Proceed in front of the white and orange building (Southern Seoul Immigration Office).

4)-2 You can enter from the left side of the white and orange building (Southern Seoul Immigration Office), so turn right here.

5) Proceed about 50m and you will arrive! You can see the entrance, so you can enter from here.

You can apply for alien registration on the 2nd floor, so please go up to the 2nd floor to complete the procedure! !!


Renewal of Alien Registration Card

When your Alien Registration Card is issued, please be sure to check the expiration date of your period of stay on the back.

There is no particular problem if you return to Japan by the expiration date, but if you want to continue studying abroad, you will need to complete the renewal procedure. In that case, please contact the Acopia staff at least one month before the expiration date. please give me. We will inform you of the necessary documents.

Please note that Acopia cannot be held responsible for any cases where the period of stay has expired without a request from the person himself / herself.


Change of domestic residence declaration

If you change your address in Korea after registering as an alien, you will need to change your residence declaration at the Residents' Center of your place of residence or the Immigration Bureau of your jurisdiction within two weeks after you move. Please note that you may be fined more than two weeks after you move.
