Yesterday was Annie's, our intern from Vietnam, last day. For this occasion we prepared a cake for her. The cake was in the shape of a bunny and was filled with a lot of whipped cream. It was delicious! The office was filled with joy. It was a day to remember with cake, friends/coworkers, and our selfmade flower arrangements.
This Wednesday, June 20, we are organizing a movie event on the French film "blind date" ("un peu, beaucoup, aveuglément"). We will be very happy to welcome you to this event to share a pleasant moment with a film and then discuss all together to share our ideas and opinions. We are looking forward to seeing you !!
First, we cooked sweet crêpes. In France, crêpes are traditionally served on Candlemas (La Chandeleur), 2 February. A belief is that catching the crêpe with a frying pan after tossing it in the air with your right hand while holding a gold coin in your left hand would cause you to become rich that year!
Today we went to Hongik University to meet the secretary of M. Benjamin Joinauwho is a professor at Hongik University, he is a doctor of Cultural Anthropology specialized in Korean Studies and also the Director of l'"Atelier des Cahiers".
Visiting Universities allows to favorise cross cultural exchanges in South Korea.
With this aim, our interns could discuss with students from South Korea and abroad in order to exchange and promote about our free talking program and events in our Acopia Café.
On 23rd August, all ACOPIA interns went to Sulbing in Hongdae, not far from ACOPIA cafe, to eat Bingsu together! This was for the departure of two of our beloved interns, Sylvie and Sylvain. Bingsu is a traditional Korean dessert that consists of grinding condensed iced milk into a snow ball and adding some sweet red beans and rice cakes on top, with some extra condensed milk over. We were feeling adventurous so we took a tiramisu bingsu, a chocolate brownie bingsu and a melon bingsu. All three were delicious!!
Some of our interns are finishing their internship and going back to their countries. At Acopia, we decided to have a pizza party this time to say goodbye to them!
We (Acopia interns) were a morning at the DMZ. It was a good experience to learn more about Korean culture.
We saw the South Korean and North Korean border, tunnels dug during the war (1950-1953),... It is also very moving to see the number of people wanting reunification and peace between these two countries.
Today we held our first Reading Club meeting, where we talked about Jen Sincero's motivational book "You are a badass". We shared the thoughts that we had while reading the book and some quotes that we really liked. Then we also decided to talk about how we handle hard situations and what we do in order to get through them. It was also a very good opportunity for us to have some cultural exchange as all of the participants came from different countries.
